My Puffball Birdies: Feeding Winter Wildlife
“Feed the birds and what do you get? FAT BIRDS.” ~Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins
One of the most important things we can do for wildlife during the winter, besides protecting their habitat which provides shelter and nesting sites, is leaving out water. This week most of my makeshift birdbaths are frozen solid, so I make sure to bring out a shallow bowl or plate of fresh water daily. Dehydration can become a problem for animals when most available water freezes, so maintaining a winter water source is vital.
And the birdies are sure pudgy in winter!
